WFAFO NEWS: Tow-Truck Bandit Strikes Sandy Shores — Deputies Eye Local Man

SANDY SHORES — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a string of unusual overnight incidents after multiple patrol vehicles disappeared from town — only to be found hours later sunk in a lake outside Sandy Shores.

According to investigators, someone has been roaming the area with a tow truck, quietly lifting marked patrol units from parking lots, side streets, and even the Sheriff substation itself. Deputies say the suspect then hauled the cruisers out of Sandy Shores and rolled them straight into the water.

No damage to civilian property was reported, but the Sheriff’s Office confirmed several cruisers were recovered this morning using heavy equipment.

A Familiar Name Surfaces

While officials have not issued an official warrant, deputies tell WFAFO that Tater Biscuit, a well-known figure around Sandy Shores, is the “primary person of interest” in the case.

Biscuit, known for his side businesses, questionable renovations, and a long history of operating anything with wheels and questionable paperwork, has reportedly been seen driving or standing near tow trucks multiple times over the past week.

One deputy, who asked not to be named, told WFAFO:

“Nobody around here steals police cars with a tow truck unless it’s someone who’s already comfortable doing dumb things with heavy machinery.”

A Methodical Operation

Deputies say the thief chose moments when units were unattended — often when deputies were on foot in nearby areas — and moved fast enough that the cars were gone before they were even noticed missing.

Each missing unit followed the same pattern:

  • Towed from Sandy Shores

  • Hauled northbound

  • Found submerged in the lake with engines off and doors locked

“The cars weren’t stripped, burned, or sold,” one investigator said. “This wasn’t a chop-shop job. Whoever did this was sending a message or just having fun.”

Sheriff’s Office Response

The Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols around Sandy Shores and is reviewing footage from nearby businesses.

Deputies are asking anyone who saw tow-truck activity late at night to come forward — but emphasized they “have a pretty good idea” where to start.

No arrests have been made, and Tater Biscuit has not commented on the allegations.

More to Come

WFAFO Channel 13 will continue following this case as it develops. If additional patrol cars go missing tonight, deputies say they’ll “stop asking nicely.”

Stay tuned for updates.
